Understand your requirements when it comes to tackling English and maths with your pupil premium funding. Find research-based approaches from the DfE and the Education Endowment Foundation, and see how schools are putting these into action.

You must demonstrate the evidence behind your interventions 

You’re required to demonstrate how your pupil premium spending decisions are informed by research evidence. 

You should choose evidence-based activities that: 

  • Support the quality of teaching, such as staff professional development 
  • Provide targeted academic support, such as tutoring 
  • Tackle non-academic barriers to success in school, such as attendance, behaviour and wellbeing 

This is set out in section 7 of the pupil premium conditions of grant for 2021-22. You’re required to publish this information on your school website by 31 December, using the DfE’s strategy statement templates

Understand what your pupils need
